Austin Activities and Events - January

If you haven't checked our blog since the New Year we are so excited to start a new program along with our monthly events blog! The month of January is jam-packed with events and activities to start the New Year off on an exciting foot. Enjoy our list of local events on the agenda this month! Don't forget to tag us in your photos on Facebook to receive those points!

1. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe 

January 6th - February 2nd | Zach Theatre

Journey through the Wardrobe to Narnia for an imaginative adventure to help Aslan defeat the White Queen! With just two actors and a lot of theatre magic, this classic tale comes to life in a way never before experienced.

2. Children's Book Fair

January 6th | Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

Meet children’s authors and favorite characters, enjoy story time, and discover great stories and books to take home! All activities are free with regular admission to the Wildflower Center. Stay and enjoy the Family Garden! Book donations will be accepted at the Center throughout the weekend for Recycled Reads, Austin Public Library.

3. Weatherfest

January 7th | Noon- 4 PM | Austin Convention Center

Teachers, students, families, weather enthusiasts of all ages! Join us for the American Meteorological Society’s 17th Annual WeatherFest, a cool, fun, and fascinating look at all things weather, water, and climate. It will be taking place at the Austin Convention Center in Exhibit Hall 1.

4. Go, Dog Go! 

January 14th | 1 PM | Paramount and Stateside Theatres

Go, Dog. Go! brings the adventures of P.D. Eastman’s book to life in a frolicking musical dog party. The cast of this beloved childhood favorite has gone to the dogs—with cars, hats, audience participation, and even a wild game of ball as this hilarious visual spectacle manages to sneak in some important lessons about life between innings. Go, Dog. Go! is a musical romp full of surprises, color, clowning, vaudeville, singing/barking, and of course, six lovable dogs!

5. Finding Neverland

 January 17th | 11 am–12 pm | Senior Activity Center - Lamar | FREE

The winner of Broadway.com’s Audience Choice Award for Best Musical, this breathtaking smash “captures the kid-at-heart,” says TIME MagazineVogue cheers, “It’s a must-see you’ll remember for years to come!” Directed by visionary Tony®-winner Diane Paulus and based on the critically-acclaimed Academy Award® winning film, FINDING NEVERLAND tells the incredible story behind one of the world’s most beloved characters: Peter Pan.

6. Winter Tree Fest

January 27th | Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center | 11 am - 4 pm 

Celebrate Texas trees in the Arboretum with tree climbing, walks and talks, s’more roasting, fort building and more! The Wildflower Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Winter Tree Fest activities are all free with admission. 

7. Wolf Ranch Famers Market

Month of January | 1015 W. University DriveGeorgetownTX 78628 

Wolf Ranch Farmers Market is the place to be in Georgetown every Saturday morning. Come out to the Wolf Ranch Town Center for the best local farmers and local food!

8. Annual Get Fit! Day

January 14th | Ballet Austin

Make plans to attend Ballet Austin's annual GET FIT event and kick off the new year celebrating health and wellbeing. You'll be motivated to keep going in 2018!

This is your opportunity to try a variety of fitness and conditioning classes, try the Pilates reformer, learn more about living healthy, visit with local health and wellness experts in our exhibit area, sample healthy foods, hear presentations from experts in the field, and have fun! We believe healthy living is meant to be enjoyed!

9. Kerrville Renaissance Festival

January 26th- 28th | 3785 TX-27 Kerrville, Texas 78028 

The Kerrville Renaissance Festival is a fun experience to participate in! Bring your family and friends to discover what the Renaissance was like with activities and events such as The Engaging Escape Artist, The Bird of Prey, musical performances, and enjoy local craft beer and delicious foods!

10. Austin Gorilla Run

Run a 5K with friends or family and benefit mountain gorillas. Gorilla suits welcome and after-party to celebrate!
